Evidence and Property Release
Property & Evidence Unit
The Federal Heights Police Department's Property & Evidence Unit is responsible for the integrity, storage, preservation, and eventual release or disposal of all property and evidence collected by officers during the course of their duties.
Property releases are done by appointment only as additional steps may be needed to release items. Appointments are scheduled Tuesday thru Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm.
You can set up appointments with the Evidence Unit at evidence@fedheights.org. Please provide your name, contact information, police department case number (where applicable) and a description of the item(s).
The property must be claimed by the owner with a government-issued photo ID card.
If you are picking up property for another adult, you will need a government-issued photo ID card and one of the following:
- a notarized letter from the person who owns the property that states specifically the name of the person picking up the property and what item(s) are authorized for release.
- a notarized Power of Attorney from the person who owns the property that states specifically what item(s) are authorized for release.
Firearms
Firearms are only released after a background check through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been completed. If approved, you will be notified, at which point an appointment can be scheduled. A government-issued photo ID is required for all firearm returns. Background checks can take 1-5 business days.
Firearms and ammunition will not be released on the same day. Please make a separate appointment for the release of ammunition.
You may email evidence@fedheights.org or call 303-412-3573 with any questions about the process.
