Building Permit Fees

A typical building permit is comprised of three fee components:

  • A Building Permit Fee: This fee is based on the total valuation of the project including labor and materials costs. See table below for fee breakdowns by valuation amount. 
  • Double Fees for Work Commencing without a Permit: In accordance with adopted Municipal Code Section10-17(d) Work commencing before permit issuance. IBC section 109.4, IEBC section [A] 108.4, IECC section R104.3, IFC section [A] 107.4, IFGC section [A] 109.4, IgCC section 108.4, IMC section [A] 109.4, IPC section [A] 109.3, IRC section R108.6 and ISPSC section [A] 108.4, are repealed in their entirety and re-enacted to provide, and ICCPC section [A] 102.3.7.7 is added to provide: work commencing before permit issuance. Any person who commences any work on a building, structure, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system before obtaining the necessary permits shall be subject to an investigation fee equal to 100 percent of the permit fee in addition to the required permit fees.
  • A Plan Review Fee: This fee is 65% of the Building Permit Fee.
  • Use Tax: This is calculated as 4% of the materials costs*
*materials costs cannot be less than 50% of the total valuation amount of the project.

 

The following table shall be used for permits required by the International Building Codes as adopted by the City of Federal Heights. Plan review fees for projects with a valuation greater than $25,000 will be collected at the time of the permit application submission. Permits for water heaters, furnaces, air conditioning units, roofing, and similar construction projects that do not require an associated plan review shall have the plan review fee waived. Separate permits shall be required for building, electric, mechanical and plumbing.
