The City of Federal Heights is accepting applications for volunteer alternate members of the Board of Adjustment.
What is the Board of Adjustment?
Commissioner qualifications are listed below. The application and background check form must be submitted and may be found below.
Requirements and terms of office:
- All members shall be residents of the City.
- All members shall serve on the commission without compensation.
- No member shall also serve as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission or City Council during their term of office.
- The term of each member shall begin on January 1 following appointment by the city council. In the event that the city council appointment of a member falls after January 1, the member's term will be deemed to have begun on the January 1 prior to such appointment. The term of each member shall be two years or until his/her successor takes office.
- Members may be removed, after public hearing, by the appointing authority for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office. The appointing authority shall file a written statement for reasons for such removal.
- Vacancies occurring otherwise than through the expiration of term may be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by the city council in the case of members appointed by it, and by the mayor in case of the member appointed by the mayor.
- A member of the commission shall be deemed to have vacated his position upon failure to attend required training unless excused by the city council or upon failure to attend four regular meetings within a calendar year. A member shall, after being absent from three regular meetings within a calendar year, be provided with written notice from the mayor that such member shall be deemed to have vacated his position if absent from any other regular meeting that year.
- All members shall attend the first available training session approved by the city council and provided during their terms of office.
Qualifications:

Each commissioner shall be a citizen of the United States.

Each commissioner shall be a registered elector of the City who has resided in his/her respective ward for a period of at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the selection.

No person who has been convicted of a felony or a willful violation of the City Charter shall be nominated or elected as Commissioner.
