TRACT #30 - LOUIS AND PAULINE LUNA
Louis and Pauline Luna were the first and second signatures on the Petition to Incorporate Federal Heights in 1940. Louis and Pauline purchased Tract #30 from Anna Guida on April 15, 1937. As a qualified landowner, Louis was one of five people that signed an affidavit to collect petition signatures to incorporate the Town of Federal Heights. The voting took place at George Vonalt’s store in May of 1940.
Louis Luna was born April 29, 1904 in Lorraine, France to Federico “Fred” and Maria (Proetti) Luna who were Italian. He and his parents immigrated to the United States arriving at Ellis Island in November 1912. The family settled in Dawson, New Mexico. In January 1922, when Louis was almost 18 years old, his sister Florence was born. By 1930, Fred, Maria and Florence were living on a farm near present day Water World. Louis's father, Fred, had several run-ins with law enforcement in the 1920s and 1930s for assault, bootlegging and the sale of narcotics in New Mexico and Colorado.
Pauline Ada Easley was born January 1, 1906 in Indian Territory to John and Etta (Bertschey) Easley.
The Easley family moved to a farm in Cuervo, New Mexico around 1910 and became cattle ranchers. Pauline was the only girl of the six Easley children.
Louis and Pauline were married in 1924. They had a daughter, Doris Louise, in Denver on August 30, 1925. In the 1930 Federal census, the Lunas were living on West 38th Avenue in the Highlands area of Denver. Louis listed his occupation as a coal miner. The family purchased Tract #30 in 1937 and moved to North Federal. The 1940 Federal census records list the Luna’s occupations as wholesale egg dealers. He was appointed to serve as a judge and clerk in the 1940 incorporation election. In 1940, Louis served as the Town’s Recorder. He was appointed to Town Clerk in 1942 and served on the Town board from 1942-1948. Their daughter, Doris, graduated from Union High School in Westminster in 1943 and continued her education at the University of Denver.
Louis and Pauline sold Tract #30 to Raleigh D. and Iva C. Frey on September 4, 1951. Over the years, the couple bought and sold additional tracts in Federal Heights - Tracts 10, 11 and 31 – before they moved in the early 1960s to Washington state where their daughter Doris and her husband and children lived.
Louis continued to invest in properties while in the Seattle area. He passed away on May 7, 1966 in Santa Barbara, California. Pauline passed away on December 26, 1977 in Enumclaw, Washington. Louis and Pauline are buried in Santa Barbara, California.
