Johan Theis and his family came to America on the SS Hohenzollem in 1884.  The ship was built in 1873
and was in service until 1899 when she was sold.  The SS Hohenzollem's capacity was 107 crew, 44 first
class passengers, 18 second class passengers and 540 third class/steerage passengers.
It was not uncommon for the ship to carry more passengers than its stated capacity.
