TRACTS #46 AND #47 – ADA WATERMAN

Ada Waterman was the 15th signer of the Petition to Incorporate Federal Heights.  Ada and William Damon purchased Tracts #46 and #47 from Florence M. Johnson on April 3,1933.  In 1936, Damon deeded both tracts to Ada.

Ada H Ruble (Rouble/Rubel) was born in Iowa in March 1884 to German immigrants, Peter and Mary (Ehrenhart) Ruble.  Ada’s mother died in 1887 at the age of 37, leaving five small children.   Ada was three years old.  Her 47-year-old father then married 21-year-old Amelia Sabel in 1891 and had 11 more children.

In the 1905 Iowa Census, Ada lists her work as a servant.  She moved to Nebraska where she continued her work as a domestic for several more years.  Ada, also known as Addy, Addi and Adda, married Edward Waterman in Pueblo, Colorado on February 28, 1921.

By 1930, 46-year-old Ada was a widow and the proprietor of a rooming house at 2025 S. Champa Street in Denver.  One of her lodgers was William A. Damon, a 70-year-old widower, with whom she purchased the tracts on North Federal.

Ada sold her Federal Heights tracts to W.E. Short on August 4, 1942.  She remained in Denver the rest of her life.
