Frank Wallic came to America on the USS Martha Washington.
The vessel was originally a 12,700-ton Austrian passenger steamer
and when the United States entered World War I in April 1917
she was taken over by the Army Quartermaster Corps and placed in
commission in January 1918. Martha Washington began
transporting troops to France and during the remainder of the the war,
crossed the Atlantic seven more times, taking more than 24,000
military personnel to Europe. With the Armistice, Martha Washington reversed
the pattern, making seven trips to America, returning nearly 20,000 passengers.
