Community Emergency Response Team

"Together we can protect our communities and make them places where responsibility and service are reflected in the good we do for others."

President George W. Bush, 04/04/02

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, using the model created by the Los Angeles City Fire Department, began promoting nationwide use of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept in 1994. Since then, CERTs have been established in hundreds of communities throughout the United States.

The Federal Heights and Adams County Offices of Emergency Management see Citizen Emergency Response Training as a partnering effort between emergency services and the people they serve. Our goal is to give each and every citizen in our communities the basic preparedness and response skills they need to survive a major disaster.

If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community.s professional response, citizens can better protect themselves by applying the skills learned during CERT training. CERT skills also apply to daily emergencies.
