FEDERAL HEIGHTS MOURNS THE DEATH OF WAYNE MARTIN

Wayne Martin, long time Federal Heights Police Chief, City Council Member and Mayor was a Pearl Harbor Survivor

The Federal Heights flag flies at half-mast in honor of Wayne Martin, former Mayor, Police Chief, and citizen.

Wayne B. Martin, who served the City of Federal Heights as Chief of Police, Interim Fire Chief, City Councilmember, Mayor Pro Tem, and Mayor, died January 18, 2011 in hospice care at his home on Rampart Street in Federal Heights. He was 89 years old.
Martin was hired as Chief of Police on November 18, 1973 and retired on August 3, 1981. He was elected to City Council on November 3, 1981, and later served as Mayor Pro Tem. He was then appointed to serve as Mayor for eight months in 1999.
Martin was a Pearl Harbor survivor who served with the U.S. Army for 21 years and in law enforcement for 20 years.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m., at Horan & McConaty, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton. A Committal Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver with honors rendered by the United States Army.
The City’s Police and Fire Color Guard will participate in the memorial service, and the City Flag will be flown at half mast for 30 days in commemoration of his death. City Council will also issue a proclamation in his honor, and a City Flag will be presented to his wife, Shirley.
