CITY OF FEDERAL HEIGHTS
SNOW REMOVAL PLAN
The City of Federal Heights
priorities for snow removal are based on several factors. The City's primary
goal during a snowstorm is to keep primary & secondary streets open and
safe for the motoring public. Priorities are based on the following criteria:
traffic volume, proximity to schools, traffic signals, common routes for
emergency response vehicles, RTD and school bus routes, steep hills, dangerous
intersections, stop signs, narrow streets, and problem areas based on past
storms. All primary & secondary streets should be sanded and/or plowed on
an as needed basis during every storm. By using the following plan every
citizen in the city (excluding private mobile home parks) should be within 1 or
2 blocks of a street that is sanded
and/or plowed during each storm. Please refer to the attached map for an
outline of the snow removal plan.
Snow Removal Priorities (225.12 Kb)
- HIGHEST PRIORITY - PRIMARY
STREETS (Colored in red on map)

carry a high volume of traffic, common routes for emergency response vehicles,
RTD & school bus routes, schools, dangerous hills, traffic signals, or

Zuni), 96th Avenue, 92nd Avenue, 90th Avenue,

Police Department has requested priority service, streets that are extremely narrow,
steep hills on residential streets, streets that serve as an arterial to a
housing development, dangerous intersections & stop signs, streets that serve
numerous apartment buildings, & problem areas based on past history. Secondary
streets are as follows: East Parcel street (south half) from Elliott to Clay, Clay St from 104th to
103rd, 103rd Ave, 102nd Ave., Elm St. from 102nd

- THIRD PRIORITY - RESIDENTIAL STREETS (Colored green on

that have not already been listed. THESE STREETS ARE ONLY DONE IF IT SNOWS 6 INCHES OR MORE AND WILL BE PLOWED AND/OR SANDED AFTER THE
PRIMARY & SECONDARY STREETS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. STREETS WILL BE
SANDED/PLOWED AT ANY TIME IF REQUESTED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OR AT THE SNOW
PLOW DRIVER'S DISCRETION IF UNUSUAL SITUATIONS EXIST (SUCH AS AN ICE STORM).
- LOWEST PRIORITY - SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES (Colored in
blue on map)
As requested or ordered by emergency response personnel, which may include Federal Blvd. & all mobile home parks.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
If the snow is less than 6 inches
only the primary & secondary priority streets will be checked and sanded
and/or plowed as needed. If the snow is more than 6 inches, the residential
streets that are labeled as 3rd priority will be cleaned after the
primary & secondary streets have been completed. Please keep in mind that
due to circumstances such as blizzards & high winds that response to
residential streets could be delayed. When
plowing streets, especially residential streets, windrows of snow are
created and
the opening of driveways are the responsibility of the property owner.
