Tuesday, 22 September 2009

At the City Council meeting held on September 15, 2009, Mayor Joyce Thomas read a proclamation recognizing September 17th through the 23rd as Constitution Week.  Mayor Thomas presented a framed copy of the proclamation to representatives of the Front Range Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which had requested the proclamation.

According to the DAR press release, Constitution Week asks all citizens to reaffirm the ideals held by the Framers of the Constitution by "vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights my never be regained."  The press release goes on to say that the "National Society Daughters of the American Revolution established Constitution Week in 1934 to commemorate and celebrate this grand document.  Each year, the society provides Constitution Week displays to schools and libraries, rings bells in remembrance of the Constitution, sponsors speakers, and distributes Constitutions to local businesses."
